I was naked and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison and you visited me.
Matthew 25:26
Life Restoration Program
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MECKLENBURG COUNTY ABC BOARD
Stigma can be a significant impediment to successful reintegration into society after being released from prison. This can result in the following consequences:
- Discrimination in housing, employment, and other areas of community involvement. For instance, individuals with criminal backgrounds may be denied access to subsidized housing.
- Negative self-perception, reluctance to seek help, and social disengagement.
- Rejection by family, friends, and the community.
- Physical stress and social isolation, which can negatively impact health
Bunk 57 Ministries has a two-pronged strategy to assisting those re-entering society and establishing a healthy, productive life. In partnership with the Mecklenburg County ABC Board, we've launched the Life Restoration Program, a 23-Week Program providing Group Sessions, along with Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling. The group sessions act as a support system and help participants understand self-worth, stable relationships, the importance of employment and long-terms goals of entrepreneurship and self-employment.

Group Study Sessions
Part 1 of the group study sessions are based on the book "Getting Out and Staying Out" by Demico Boothe. Part II of the group study sessions incorporates the WRAP Curriculum. (A wellness recovery action plan.) WRAP is a certificate program that provides 20 hours of training toward certification as a Peer Support Specialist.
Mental Health / Substance Abuse Counseling
Participants must complete a mental health assessment and are required to schedule at least three-on-one counseling sessions with our on-site licensed therapist. A personal development strategy will be proposed and may involve referrals to additional programs and resources.
Introduction to Entrepreneurship
This component of the program aims to increase your earning potential and provide participants with a greater chance of success than the traditional low-wage occupation. Learn the fundamentals of business structure, accounting, marketing & branding and customer retention.
Introduction to Film and Videography
This optional course is aimed to teach the principles of video production. These skills can be beneficial in starting a freelance business or production company. Learn camera operation, lighting, storyboarding, sound design and video editing skills.
Returning Home Backpack Drive
Men and women released from correctional facilities receive minimal support and preparation for their new lives outside the prison walls. Inadequate assistance and resources make their re-entry into communities a challenge.
Bunk 57 provides a community of support as well as backpacks to these citizens to help them achieve a fresh start. The backpacks include the following essentials:
Toothbrushes and toothpaste
Body wash, towel sets, and deodorant
Dress shirts, t-shirts, boxers, and socks
